Governor Evers and Students

On Wednesday, June 1st, Sylvia and JJ, 3rd and 5th graders at Nuestro Mundo respectively, attended the Progress Pride Flag raising ceremony at the state capitol. They also got to meet Governor Evers! JJ took the opportunity to advocate for non-binary to be an option for gender on Wisconsin driver's licenses! Big thanks to Nuestro Mundo staff member Katie Hayden for going above and beyond to make sure all student identities are validated and celebrated!

Wheelchair Basketball

On Thursday, May 26th, 3rd through 5th grade students attended an assembly led by the Ability Center in which they learned about the wonderful sport of wheelchair basketball. The students watched as their teachers and principal were humbled in a game against a real wheelchair basketball team. Players and organizers from the Ability Center, in Wauwatosa, taught lessons in what it means to be differently abled as well as lessons in growth mindset and resilience. Many students also had the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball themselves!
